Judge Donald Coburn of Morristown, NJ; Dumbo

The state of New Jersey provided Donald S. Coburn with a law license in 1966 after he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

Donnie sits as a part-time recall judge hearing civil cases in Morristown. In one matter, Donnie the Dumbo (DD) ignorantly used the errors and confusion of an attorney against her client.

The Court of Appeals reversed Donnie the Dumbo’s decision and reinstated the case for trial and said in its ruling:

  • “We are additionally guided by the principle that an attorney's mistaken conduct...should not be visited upon an innocent client.”

The victim of Donnie’s asinine ruling was represented by attorney Patricia Rosenblatt who failed to attend court-ordered arbitration. As a result of Ms. Rosenblatt’s failure to appear, Donnie the Dumbo punished her client by granting a default judgment against the client.

The Court of Appeals ruled that Donnie could have found another method by which to handle Rosenblatt via a sanction calling for her to reimburse the plaintiff’s attorney for her time. The court went on to say:

  • “Final judgment by default was extreme and constitutes an abuse of discretion.”

Of course the Dumbo doesn’t much give a damn about having his absurd decision reversed by the appellate court. After all, he can’t be tossed off the bench for being a Certified Dumbo.

As we speak (October 2015), Donnie the Dumbo continues to sit as a judge in Morristown, New Jersey.
