U.S. Judge Carlos Murguia of Kansas City, KS; ethical troll

The state of Kansas provided Carlos Murguia with a law license in 1982 after he graduated from the University of Kansas School of Law.

Former President Clinton was duped into appointing Carlos as a U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas judge in 1999. Carlos wasn’t nominated because he was the most qualified attorney/jurist in the greater Kansas City area. He received the appointment because he had proven to be a reliable lackey for the local political hacks.

FYI: Carlos has had his significant snout firmly implanted in the public trough for the last thirty-five (35) years. Apparently, no self-respecting law firm in the greater Kansas City area was about to offer Carlos a good paying job.

The Judicial Council of the Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit found Carlos guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Engaged in a years-long extramarital sexual relationship with a drug-using individual
  • Habitually late for court proceedings and meetings (slacker)
  • Repeated cause of Carlos’ tardiness was his regularly scheduled lunchtime basketball games on days when he had hearings or trials
  • Engaged in conduct unbecoming of a judge [Really?]
  • Gave unwanted attention to female employees
  • Engaged in “sexually suggestive comments, inappropriate text messages, and excessive non-work-related contacts, much of which occurred after work hours and often late at night
  • The woman Carlos had an extra-marital affair with was at the time on probation and is now incarcerated (because of probation violations) for state-court felony convictions
  • Sexual affair placed Carlos in such a compromised position that he made himself susceptible to extortion
  • When confronted with the sexual affair allegations, Carlos did not fully disclose the extent of his misconduct, meaning he tended to admit to allegations only when confronted with supporting documentary evidence
  • Misconduct was very serious and occurred over a lengthy period

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Judicial Council punished Carlos by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. December 2019), Carlos continues to sit as a District Court judge in Kansas City, Kansas.
