State Sen. Brandon Smith (R-KY): Today's“Arrogant Drunk” Award Winner

Congratulations to….

State Sen. Brandon Smith (R-KY)

Today’s “Arrogant Drunk” Award Winner

For the past seventeen (17) years, Brandon has had his significant snout firmly implanted in the public trough. In 2000, Brandon succeeded in duping the voters into electing him as a State Senator.

Brian the Arrogant Drunk started off the New Year by being arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) on January 6, 2015, which just happened to be first day of the 2015 legislative session.

According to the arrest citation, Brandon refused to take an breathalyzer test when he got to a jail — which according to Kentucky law means an automatic 30-day suspension of one's license on a first offense and increased penalties upon conviction.

Brandon laughingly claims that based on Section 43 of the Kentucky Constitution (ca. 1891) that Kentucky legislators are “privileged from arrest during their attendance on the sessions of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same.”

Fellow Republican, Kentucky Senate President Robert Stivers disagreed with Brandon’s hyperbolic (BS) claim of immunity. Sen. Stivers went on to say:

“No member of the General Assembly is above the law," Stivers said in a statement. "While Kentucky's Constitution does provide for a limited form of legislative immunity, as does the United States Constitution and most state constitutions, it is clear that the immunity does not apply in this situation.”

If Brandon’s asinine claim was factually true, then a state legislator that was molesting a child would also be immune from prosecution.

Congrats Brandon; keep up the good work! We should let everyone know of your amazing record as one of Americas Least Appreciated “Arrogant Drunks”; you are far too humble.
