Solicitor Matthew Robbins of New Zealand; ethical ogre

The Law Society of New Zealand presented Matthew Guy Robbins with a law license in 1997 after he graduated from the University of Auckland Law School.

The New Zealand Lawyers and Conveyancers Disciplinary Tribunal found Matty guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Engaged in a conflict of interest involving commercial leasehold transaction
  • Allowed leasehold transaction to proceed knowing there was a risk that the solicitor acting for the other party was unaware of amendments Matty made to the leasehold documentation
  • Failed to achieve outcome for client
  • Failed to assure that law practice was administered in a manner that ensures that the duties to the court and existing, prospective, and former clients are adhered to, and that the reputation of the legal profession is preserved

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Disciplinary Tribunal punished Matty by gifting him with a fine of £2,000 ($1,215.00) and assessed investigative costs of £12,000 ($7,291.00).

As we speak (ca. July 2020), Matty practices with Jasper Vincent Solicitors at 9 Manor Court, Barnes Wallis Road, Segensworth, Fareham in Hampshire, New Zealand.
