Attorney Patrick Dwyer of Victoria, Canada: lying loser

The Victorian Legal Services Commissioner (LSC) found Patrick guilty of the following misconduct.

In one matter, Patrick represented a client charged with murder. Subsequently, the client pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

During its investigation of Patrick, the LSC asked him to account for payments totaling $15,000 in his representation of his client.

Patrick found it acceptable to draw up false invoices for the payments, and when he was confronted with the evidence against him he pleaded guilty to four (4) charges of professional misconduct and one count of unsatisfactory conduct in a hearing before the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT).

Additional charges included Patrick’s non-compliance with mandatory trust obligations; a failure to provide a costs disclosure statements; the creation of false documents and subsequently misleading [lying] to LSC investigators.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the patron saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the LSC punished Patrick by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. August 2013), Patrick practices at 422 High Street in Northcote Victoria, Canada.
