Attorney Robert Dinnen of Ontario, CAN; ethical goblin

The Law Society of Upper Canada presented Robert Allan Dinnen with a law license in 1982 after he graduated from the University of Ottawa School of Law.

The Law Society of Upper Canada Disciplinary Committee found Bobby guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Failed to inform client of status of legal matter for months
  • Continued to represent client while in a conflict despite the issue being raised by opposing counsel and more than one judge expressing the view that he should not continue the representation
  • Failed to properly supervise office staff
  • Instructed client to sign three affidavits without explaining to her what she was signing
  • Failed meet or speak with to discuss or obtain instructions on an offer to settle from opposing counsel
  • Judge ordered Bobby to pay opposing parties costs of $8,5000 re: motion to remove him due to obvious conflict of interest
  • Never advised client that she should not not use estate funds to pay his bills as there was no certificate of appointment of estate trustee
  • Failed to properly serve his client

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Upper Law Society Committee punished Bobby by gifting him a complimentary 45-day suspension of his law license and assessed him with $15,000.00 in costs regarding the ethics investigation.

As we speak (ca. April 2019), Bobby practices at 4 Government Road East in Kirkland, Lake Ontario, Ontario, Canada.
