Salon editor-at-large Joan Walsh wrote a piece today (8/17/11) titled: “The racial idiocy of Obama’s GOP ‘friend’. In her article, Ms. Walsh quotes Tommy making the following statements to a well-behaved audience.  (The Tulsa World)
  • Obama’s “intent is not to destroy.”
  • “His intent is to create dependency because it worked so well for him.”
  • Obama backs welfare programs because “as an African-American male” he received “tremendous advantage from a lot of these programs.”
Ms. Walsh came away with the opinion that Tommy’s comments evidenced that he was a bigot.
 
In an effort to be fair to Tommy and to do so in an “unfair and unbalanced” manner, I decided to seek an opinion from the Right Rev. Sean Hannity for comparison to Ms. Walsh’s comments.
 
After a brief conversation with Rev. Sean, I’ve come to the conclusion that Tommy’s comments were rat-fully directed at the dependency type benefits that were heaped upon African-Americans many, many years ago, especially in the Deep South. Now, let’s compare the benefits that Blacks enjoyed prior to the Civil War to those that Obama and other African-Americans have enjoyed thereafter.
  • Subsidized housing (100% in the good old days)
  • 100% subsidized schools provided on most plantations
  • Free sex-education classes for good looking gals from their Master
  • Cotton at no cost for use to make clothing and blankets
  • 75% discount on Tobacco products for plantation workers
Now if we (y’all know what I mean by we, right?) could just get our country back from them (I sure y’all know what I means by them) in 2012 everything’s gonna be just peachy keen.
 
Now is it really fair to refer and/or conclude that Tommy is a bigot or racist now that we know “the rest of the story?”
 
Congrats Sen. Coburn; keep up the good work! We should let everyone know of your amazing record as one of America’s foremost advocates for civil rights for African-Americans, Latinos and Gays; you are far too humble.
