Attorney Michael Cooke of Bluefield, WV; lying workaholic

The state of West Virginia provided Michael P. Cooke with a law license in 2005 after he graduated from the University of West Virginia School of Law.

The Lawyer Disciplinary Board found Mikey guilty of the following misconduct

  • Billed the West Virginia Public Defender Service more than 15 hours a day on 37 different occasions over an eight-month period
  • On five days billed West Virginia Public Defender Service more than 20 hours and on at least two days more than 24 hours
  • In three years, Mikey’s annual public defender service billings ranged from nearly 2,300 hours to almost 2,700 hours, which didn’t include his work as a guardian ad litem
  • Failed to file a guardian ad litem brief by the mandated deadline

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the West Virginia Supreme Court punished Mikey by gifting his with a complimentary 2-year suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. April 2021), Mikey practices his brand of law at 307 Federal Street in Bluefield, West Virginia.
