Attorney Stewart Gitler of Alexandria, VA; guilty of forgery

The state of Virginia presented Stewart Lee Gitler with a law license in 1983 after he graduated from Hofstra University School of Law. Stu also received a license to practice his brand of law in the District of Columbia and New York.

The Virginia State Bar Disciplinary found Stu guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty or misrepresentation
  • Engaged in conduct adversely reflecting on fitness to practice
  • Lied that his client had left timely instructions to file a PCT application when in fact that statement was patently false
  • Did not file PCT application until after deadline to so act had passed
  • Forged client’s signature to letter and then notarized the forged signature in his capacity as a notary public
  • Forged client’s signature a second time and again notarized the forged signature

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Virginia Bar Disciplinary Board punished Stu by gifting him with a complimentary 90-day suspension of his law license.

Because Attorney Misfits in Virginia are held to a much lower standard of conduct then everyone else, Stu was never criminally charged with forgery.

As we speak (ca. February 2020), Stu practices with Welsh Flaxman & Gitler LLC at 2000 Duke Street in Alexandria, Virginia.
