Attorney Michael Halpin of Merrillville, IN; ethical leprechaun

The state of Indiana provided Michael Edward Halpin with a law license in 1986 after he graduated from Drake University Law School.

The Indiana Disciplinary Commission found Mike guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Failed to exhibit remorse for his misconduct
  • Improperly criticized trial court judge
  • Threatened opposing counsel with ethics complaint unless he agreed to a change of venue
  • Criticized a trial judge’s “stubbornly injudicious attitude”
  • Accused opposing counsel of fraud, deceit and trickery
  • Falsely claimed father in divorce matter had stolen from his client
  • Advised father’s lawyer he wouldn’t file criminal charges if client agreed to change of venue
  • Wrote to opposing attorney that “your possibly homophobic, racist, sexist clients should not be using the courts to further that agenda”
  • Falsely accused trial judge of failing to follow Indiana law
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Indiana Supreme Court punished Mike by gifting him with a complimentary 60-day suspension of his law license.

As we speak (March 2017), Mike practices with the Halpin Law Office at 5590 Broadway in Merrillville, Indiana.
