Justice Innocent Umezulike of Nigeria; ethical leprechaun

The Nigerian Bar presented Innocent Azubike Umezulike with a law license in 1980. after he graduated from Texas Southern University Law School. 

The former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Chuka Obele-Chuka has accused Justice Umezulike of concealment of his ownership of a sprawling property at Trans Ekulu, Enugu, which is worth over 100 million Naira (Nigerian currency), which equates to $502,260 American dollars.

In 1993, Justice Umezulike was appointed a judge of the High Court of Enugu State. The law required that Umezulike file an Asset Declaration Form. Since his appointment, Umezulike has periodically filed Asset Declaration Forms and filed them under oath with the Bureau.

In 1999, Justice Umezulike purchased a piece of land in Enugu. After acquiring the land, Umezulike went about erecting very high walls around the land and subsequently erected two buildings on the land. The property is estimated to be worth at least One Hundred Million Naira. At this time Umezulike was sitting as a judge of the Failed Bank Tribunal in Lagos.

A review of the Declaration of Assets sworn to and filed by Umezulike from 1993 through 2001provve that he never included the aforementioned property. A further review of Umezulike’s earnings establish that he could not possibly have had sufficient funds to purchase the land and pay for the buildings on it.

All that’s left now is to see when and if Justice Umezulike cops a plea and resigns his judgeship. If he doesn’t, then we’ll see what if any punishment is meted out to him by the apologists for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Judicial Commission.

As we speak (ca. May 2016), Justice Umezulike continues to sit as judge of the High Court of Enugu State, Nigeria.
