Former Judge Chiu Chuang-shun of Taiwan; convict

At the time of his misconduct, Judge Chuang-shun was a Taiwan High Court judge in Taipei.

Chiu was charged with misconduct that obstructed official affairs after he beat and spat on guards while under detention. He was also criminally charged for accepting and arranging a bribe payment to his former colleagues.

During his stay at the Taipei Detention Center in Taipei County for an ongoing investigation concerning his alleged role as a broker to buy off his former colleagues, Chiu became agitated and started spitting at wardens. Chiu also beat up a guard who accompanied him on a trip to the hospital for treatment.

Prosecutors said that Chiu is also facing an additional charge for obstructing official affairs handled by public agencies.

Subsequently, Chiu was found guilty and after his appeals were denied he was sentenced to 18-months in prison for providing false evidence and for bribery. He was also permanently disbarred.
