Attorney Hans Sorensen of Auckland, NZ; ethical leprechaun

The Law Society of New Zealand presented Michael Bryan Meyrick with a law license in 1989.

The New Zealand Lawyers and Conveyancers Disciplinary Tribunal found Mike guilty of the following misconduct.

In one matter, Hans represented Mr. Sorenson who acted as the administrator for a relative’s will, a will that Hans had prepared for the lady the previous years.

The lady’s brothers who were the executors of the will, were not happy with the bequests and instructed Hans to make significant changes to the sums paid out and to whom $120,00 was to be diverted in this way.

Even though Hans absolutely knew that diverting the funds was a breach of the law and could lead to proceedings against the brothers, he helped them implement the scheme and was personally complicity in ensuring the other heirs had little chance of finding out what he and the brothers had done.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the patron saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the New Zealand Lawyers and Conveyancers Disciplinary Tribunal punished Mike by gifting him with a complimentary 2-year suspension of his law license.
