US Judge Richard Kopf of Nebraska; dirty old man

The state of Nebraska presented Richard George Kopf with a law license in 1972 after he graduated from the University of Nebraska Law School.

In 1992, former president George H.W. Bush was duped into appointing Richard Kopf as a District Court Judge in Nebraska. Dick was appointed because he was the most qualified attorney in Nebraska; he received it because he had proven to be a reliable lackey for the local political hacks.

It appears that Dick is a practicing prude who believes woman attorneys should abide by his idea of a proper “dress code.” On Dick’s blog, Hercules and the Umpire, he recently (03/25/14) wrote: (Charlotte Allen, guest blogger, LA Times)

• "Around these parts there is a wonderfully talented and very pretty female lawyer who is in her late twenties.
• “She is brilliant, she writes well, she speaks eloquently, she is zealous but not overly so, she is always prepared, she treats others, including her opponents, with civility and respect, she wears very short skirts and shows lots of her ample chest. I especially appreciate the last two attributes.”

Dick then said:

• “From the foregoing, and in my continuing effort to educate the bar, I have three rules that young women lawyers should follow when considering how to dress for court:
• “You can’t win. Men are both pigs and prudes. Get over it.”
• “It is not about you. That goes double when you are appearing in front of a jury.”
• “Think about the female law clerks. If they are likely to label you, like Jane Curtin, an ignorant slut behind your back, tone it down."

Dick the Hypocrite then went on to say:

• “In candor, I have been a dirty old man ever since I was a very young.”
• “Except, that is, when it comes to my daughters (and other young women that I care deeply about).

So Dick finds it perfectly acceptable to look up your daughter’s skirt but is unwilling to reciprocate.

It should be noted that Dick became a senior status judge in 2011. This means that he only has to work 25% of the time (10 hours a week) to collect his $199,000 salary.

Since Dick is 68-years-old (D.O.B. 1946), it is likely that he’ll be sitting on the bench for another 20 or more years, which is in keeping with his brother-on-the-bench, Judge Warren Urbom who is 89-years-old and has been a senior status judge since 1990 (24 years).

Of course Dick could attempt to overtake the longevity record held by US District Court Judge Wesley Brown of Kansas who died on the bench when he was 104-years-old and had spent 33-years as a senior status judge. If he does, then Nebraskans can’t rid themselves of Dick until 2050.

And lastly, one must wonder how much time Dick the Dirty Old Man spends working on his website at www.herculesandtheumpire.com while on the taxpayer dime.
