Attorney John Helton of Chattanooga; repeat offender

The state of Tennessee presented John Cris Helton with a law license in 1990 after he graduated from Cumberland Law School.

The Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility found John guilty of the following misconduct.
  • Failed to expedite client’s litigation
  • Violated/attempted to violate Rules of Conduct or knowingly assisted another to do so
  • Failed to properly administer an estate
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Failed to provide competent representation (Dumbo)
  • Charges an unreasonable fee
  • Failed to safeguard client funds
As one would suspect, this wasn’t Johnny’s First bite At the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree. He previously received a complimentary censure for engaging in a variety of misconduct.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Tennessee Supreme Court punished John by gifting him with his second complimentary censure

As we speak (ca. January 2014), John practices at 622 Georgia Avenue in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
