Attorney Roger Batchelor of Victoria, BC; ethical gremlin

The Bar Society presented Roger Dwight Batchelor with a law license in 1995.

The Disciplinary Committee of the Bar Society found Roger guilty of the following misconduct.

In one matter, a client hired Roger to represent her in a family law case. Subsequently, the client filed an ethics complaint with the Law Society regarding the fees Roger charged and the quality of services he provided.

After the ethics complaint was filed, Robert prepared a written agreement wherein he would provide $11,000 to his client, and in exchange she would withdraw the complaint against him then pending with the Law Society.

Roger then issued an initial check of $2,000 to the client. He then informed the Law Society that he had reached a settlement with his client and that she was going to withdraw her complaint.

In reality, Roger’s conduct borders on “bribery” in that he attempted to buy his client’s silence in regards to his gross negligence by paying her $11,000.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Disciplinary Committee punished Roger by imposing a fine of $3,000.

As we speak (ca. September 2013) Roger practices with Batchelor Stamm Law Corporation at 103-2220 Sooke Road in Victoria, British Columbia.
