Attorney James Carter, Jr. of Baton Rouge; ethical dwarf

The state of Louisiana presented James J. Carter, Jr. with a law license in 1984. James was also licensed by the state of Georgia in 1990.

The Office of Disciplinary Counsel found James guilty of the following misconduct.

In one matter, James sued Mary A. Scarborough in the Shreveport City Court seeking to recover legal fees for services he claimed to have rendered to her. However, during the time that Jimmy claimed to have rendered legal services to Mary, he was not lawfully eligible to practice in Louisiana because his license had been suspended.

Jimmy estimated that Mary owed him about $9,000 in fees for legal services he performed while his law license was suspended.

When the Shreveport City Court learned that Jimmy’s license was suspended, the judge subsequently ruled that since Jimmy was not duly licensed at the time that the services were provided that he could not lawfully recover fees for legal services rendered during that time.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the Louisiana Supreme Court punished Leslie by gifting him with a complimentary stayed 6-month suspension of his law license.

In truth, the comedians sitting on the Louisiana Supreme Court didn’t mete out any meaningful punishment to James.

As we speak (ca) August 2013) James practices with the Louisiana State Law Institute at 7505 Cardiff Avenue in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
