Sen. Eduardo Lucio serial scofflaw; certified moron, ethically in-the-tank
Sen. Eduardo Lucio succeeded in duping the voters in the Brownsville area into electing him to the 27th State Senate seat in 1991.
Section 253.035 of the Texas Election Code prohibits a candidate or officeholder from converting campaign contributions to his/her personal use.
In addition, Ethics Opinion No. 104, which specifically prohibits the use of campaign funds to pay for food/groceries/beverages, dry cleaning, laundry, cleaning supplies and/or personal items while residing in Austin during legislative sessions.
The reason for this prohibition is due to the fact that one would like to think that Sen. Eduardo Lucio and his cohorts in the Texas legislature purchase cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, toothpaste and/or toilet paper for their respective residences.
Sen. Eduardo Lucio takes the cake for engaging in serial violations of the Texas Ethics Laws that prohibit the use of campaign funds for personal use. On forty-three (43) occasions Sen. Eduardo Lucio violated the law by failing to provide any detail (explanation) other than “Supplies for Austin Campaign Residence.”
Sen. Eduardo Lucio’s repeated purchases of cleaning supplies (17 occasions) clearly violates Texas law as does his purchase of (a) rat poison, rat traps and bug spray unless its was intended for two-legged varmints rather than four-legged ones running amuck at the statehouse in August. The usual suspects so to speak.
From 2001 to 2007 Sen. Eduardo Lucio spent $11,501.99 on furniture and a TV. In addition, he spent at least $1,526.98 on bedding and sheets from April 2001 to Jan 2007. How much bedding and sheets can one feller use? I wasn’t aware that “Depends” produced 400-thread-count disposable sheets, were you? Well to be fair to Sen. Eduardo Lucio, maybe it depends (pun intended) where ya shop, right?
It is indeed unfortunate that Sen. Eduardo Lucio lacks the mental smarts to appreciate that this type of conduct is prohibited. Below you’ll find the instances wherein Sen. Eduardo Lucio made the purchases alluded to above (ca. 2000 through 2007).
