Attorney Robert Bless of Arlington Heights, IL; ethical gremlin

The state of Illinois presented Michael Robert Bless with a law license in 2004 after he graduated from George State University Law School.

The Georgia State Bar has charged Robert with the following misconduct.

The Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission (ARDC)  has charged Robert with engaging in the following misconduct.

Michael previously served as a McHenry County Board member. He also worked for the Cook County (Chicago) sheriff’s office. The sheriff’s office fired Mike after it learned he was working a County Board member along with running his law office. In truth, Mike was defrauding the taxpayers by collecting disability checks from Cook County while working two other jobs.

Michael found it appropriate to have sex with a client, Kathleen Scott and also to accepting over $100,000 in loans from her. Mike admits to having sex with Kathleen but denies he was her attorney.

Kathleen contacted Mike’s law firm in connection a fatal accident involving her husband. Subsequently, Kathleen entered into a written contract with Mike’s law firm to handle her case. Mike or firm were cited as her attorney on legal documents filed with the court in the wrongful death case. Therefore, Mike’s denial that he represented Kathleen is a lie.

At a disciplinary hearing, Kathleen testified about her sexual relationship with Mike; however, she eventually learned that he was married with six children. Kathleen then broke off the relationship, which led Mike to send her a text stating:

“U need 2 deny anything other than we r good friends nothing more I could lose my license.”

The enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission recommended to the Illinois Supreme Court that Mike receive a complimentary 3-year suspension as punishment for his egregious misconduct.

All that’s left now is to wait and see what if any punishment the Illinois Supreme Court metes out to Mike.

As we speak (ca. June 2013), Michael practices with Bless & Associates at 102 North Evergreen in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
