Judge Lamar McCorkle of Houston; scofflaw, ethically insolvent

Judge Lamar McCorkle previously sat on the 133rd District Court in Houston.

Texas Ethics Laws limits the expenditure of campaigns funds to legitimate campaign activities and/or official officeholder duties. In other words, campaign funds cannot be used for purposes that are clearly personal in nature.

Despite this prohibition, Judge Lamar McCorkle used campaign funds to pay for “exercise equipment” as set forth below.

In May and June of 2006, Judge Lamar McCorkle spent $7,772.24 in campaign funds for enhancements made to the courthouse in Houston as set forth below.
  • Baker, Judge, 20060509, $319.94, Enhancement for court suite common area

  • Sumang, Annie, 20060929, $313.15, Balance due enhancements common court area
It would be frivolous to the nth degree for Judge Lamar McCorkle to argue that these expenditures had any relationship to his official judicial duties. There can be no doubt it had nothing to do with legitimate campaign activity.
