Attorney Jo Ann Fulton of Laramie; WY; ethical misfit
The state of North Dakota presented Jo Ann Fulton with a law license in 1990.
The Disciplinary Board found Jody guilty of the following misconduct.
- Filed a frivolous lawsuit against a defendant that had no merit
- Billed clients hourly attorney fee time for time spent by her paralegal
- Purchased a Certificate of Deposit (CD) with client funds in the name of her law firm
- Commingled client funds with her personal funds
- Failed to respond to clients’ requests for information re: her purchase of the CD
- Delivered portion of clients’ fund to them with 2 checks that were returned for insufficient funds (rubber)
- Counseled her clients on how to unlawfully avoid tax consequences of interest earned from settlement monies
- Communicated directly with persons she knew were represented by counsel
As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the North Dakota Supreme Court punished Jo Ann by gifting her with a complimentary 3-year suspension of her law license.
As we speak (ca. March 2013), Jo Ann continues to practice in the Laramie, Wyoming area.
