Judge Abdul Baari Yoosuf of Male, Maldives; sexual batterer

FYI: The Republic of the Maldives which is also referred to as the MaldiveIslands is an island nation in the Indian Ocean. The Maldives is the smallest Asian country in both population and land area.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) found Judge Yoosuf guilty of the following misconduct.

The JSC ordered that Yoosuf be suspended from the bench until it makes a final decision in regards to his misconduct. The JSC stated, “The judge has been asked to not to report to work until further notice from the JSC.”

It was reported by CNM that Yoosuf’s suspension followed a case filed by a female lawyer from the Prosecutor General’s (PG) office, who alleged that Yoosuf had sexually assaulted her.

If Judge Yoosuf was being prosecuted by the New York Judicial Commission for sexual misconduct, he would likely receive a complimentary reprimand along with being paid for the time he was suspended.

As of February 26, 2013, no decision on Yoosuf’s punishment has been made by the Judicial Service Commission..
