Stephen’s misconduct took place during his representation of the wife in a divorce case wherein he filed a financial statement in which he deliberately left blank the space that asked for his client’s gross income for the preceding year.
During the time of his representation, Stephen knowingly concealed the income of his client for one specific year from opposing counsel. In fact, Stephen filed a settlement agreement with the court wherein he certified that he knew of no falsehoods contained in said agreement. Stephen’s certification was false because he knowingly concealed the yearly income of his client in order that the settlement would remain in effect, even though it was based on concealment of his client’s true income.
