Judge Frederic Block of New York City; one of the good guys

The state of New York presented Judge Block with a law license in 1959 after he graduated from Cornell University Law School.

In 1994, President Clinton nominated Judge Block for a judgeship on the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of New York.

Judge Block is presiding over a case wherein Jabbar Collins is suing Assistant DA Michael Vecchione, Brooklyn DA Charles Hynes and the New York Police Department for serving 16 years in prison for a murder he did not commit. For more information regarding Vecchione’s misconduct, visit the URL listed at the end of this article.

Collins’ wrongful conviction lawsuit led to his recent release from prison after he provided evidence that the police and prosecutors — including Michael Vecchione, coerced false testimony to win his conviction.

Judge Block ruled on Feb 15, 2013 that Collin’s lawsuit could proceed to trial. In his ruling deny a request to toss the case; Judge Block said the facts demonstrated significant misconduct by both the police and the prosecutors. “The court concludes that Collins’ allegations regarding DA Charles Hynes’ response — or lack therefore — to misconduct by Vecchione and other assistants make plausible his theory that Hynes was so deliberately indifferent to the underhanded tactics that his subordinates employed as to effectively encourage them to do so.” (Mosi Secret, NY Times)

In most cases, judges cloth prosecutors with “absolute immunity” from lawsuits wherein they engaged in egregious misconduct that led to a wrongful conviction. It is refreshing to see that Judge Block had the courage and fortitude to allow Mr. Collins his day in court.

Kudos to Judge Frederick Block for ordering that Hynes and his cohorts answer to a jury for their despicable conduct!

Brooklyn DA Michael Vecchione, congenital liar, ethical leper-con
