Attorney Margaret Powers of Crossville, TN; crooked loser

The state of Tennessee provided Margaret Jane Powers with a law license in 1980 after she graduated from the University of Tennessee Law School.

The Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility found Margaret guilty of the following misconduct

In one matter, Margaret received a check made out to her client from the opposing party in a divorce case. Margaret then asked the client if she could apply the check to the client’s outstanding legal fees. The client specifically refused Margaret’s request.

Margaret then held the check for 18-months, and then asked the client again if she could apply it to her outstanding legal bill. The client didn’t respond. Margaret then deposited the check into her personal account, and endorsed (forged) the client’s signature without his permission or knowledge.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Tennessee Supreme Court punished Margaret by gifting her with a complimentary censure.

Because Attorney Misfits in Tennessee are held to a much lower standard of conduct then everyone else, Margaret was never criminally charged for forgery or grand theft.

As we speak (ca. December 2012) Margaret practices at 17 North Main Street in Crossville, Tennessee.
