Attorney Shaun Downey of Omaha; convicted cokehead

The state of Nebraska presented Shaun Francis Downey with a law license in 1994.

For the first five years, Shaun practiced in Mexico City, Mexico. He then worked as a staff attorney in the Public Defender’s Office for five years. He then began a practice in Omaha that primarily consisted of criminal defense work.

Disciplinary Counsel of the Nebraska Supreme Court found Shaun guilty of the following misconduct.
  1. Engaged in conduct adversely reflecting on his fitness to practice law
  2. Violated his oath of office as an attorney
  3. Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  4. Engaged in conduct involving dishonesty
Shaun and his girlfriend, and her 14-year-old daughter consumed alcohol in Shaun’s apartment. When the minor girl became intoxicated and unruly, Shaun “slapped” her on the buttocks and told her to stop. Based on this incident, Shaun was arrested and eventually charged with 3rd degree assault, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and procuring alcohol for a minor.

Shaun later agreed to appear in court and plead guilty to 3rd degree assault and procuring alcohol for a minor; however, to appear because he was on a self-described “cocaine binge.” He fled to Missouri where he was arrested after a high speed car chase and charged with felony driving under the influence and possession of cocaine. After his arrest he was taken to the hospital but left the hospital without the consent or agreement of the prosecutor. Shaun then pled guilty to Missouri felony charges of driving under the influence of cocaine and possession of a controlled substance. He was given a suspended sentence and placed in a drug offender boot camp for 90 days.

Shaun was then extradited to Nebraska and pled guilty to 3rd degree assault and procuring alcohol for a minor. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on Nebraska Supreme Court punished Shaun by gifting him with an indefinite suspension; however, the comedians on the Court subsequently reinstated Shaun’s license in early 2012

As we speak (ca. December 2012) Shaun practices at 2414 E Street in Omaha, Nebraska.
