Attorney Jeffrey Glassman of Boston; greedy loser

The state of Massachusetts presented Jeffrey S. Glassman with a law license in 1991.

The Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers found Jeffrey guilty of the following misconduct.

Jeffrey was hired to represent a driver injured in a two-car collision on a one-third contingent fee agreement. The client’s had two passengers in his care, one of whom was left a paraplegic as a result of the collision. The second passenger also suffered severe injuries. The other vehicle crossed the center line, striking the client’s car head-on.

Jeffrey’s client referred the two passengers to Jeffrey, who agreed to represent them as well for a contingent fee.

The other vehicle, was insured in another state and carried liability coverage of $400,000 per occurrence. Jeffrey’s client had coverage of $50,000 per person and $100,000 per occurrence. The available insurance was grossly insufficient to cover the total damages incurred by Jeffrey’s three clients. Neither driver, including Jeffrey’s client had personal assets that would satisfy the claims from the accident.

Under these circumstances, the interests of Jeffrey’s three clients were directly in conflict. Subsequently, the client who was rendered a paraplegic, fired Jeffrey and hired another attorney.

Later on, the insurer for the offending vehicle offered an aggregate settlement of the $400,000 policy limits to all of the injured parties, subject to them splitting the proceeds among themselves. Jeffrey then negotiated with his former client’s (paraplegic) attorney the splitting of the $400,000, wherein the ex-client received $266,667 and each of his other two clients received $76,667.

While awaiting the payment of the $400,000, Jeffrey made a claim for his passenger client against his driver client and presented the claim to the driver client’s insurer. This is like a really big conflict of interest; however, Jeffrey’s only concern was to collect one-third of the money the insurers paid on this claim.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Board of Bar Overseers punished Jeffrey by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. October 2012) Jeffrey practices with the Law Offices of Jeffrey S. Glassman, LLC at One Beacon Street in Boson, Massachusetts.
