Attorney Ronald GS Au of Honolulu; ethically impoverished
Disciplinary Counsel found Ronald guilty of the following misconduct.
As to paying illegal fees to a non-attorney, Mr. Yoshimoto testified that he had an agreement with Ronald to find and refer clients to Ronald for 5% of the gross amount of any settlement.
Yoshimoto referred Cindy Labrador who had two personal injury matters. Eventually both matters settled for $46,000 and Ronald paid Yoshimoto $2,300 (5%). However, Ronald falsely stated on the 3 checks ($950, $850 and $500) that they were for Yoshimoto’s “investigative services.”
As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Hawaii Supreme Court punished Ronald by gifting him with a 5-year suspension of his law license when in fact he should have been permanently disbarred.
