U.S. Judge Henry Wingate of Jackson, MS; certified slacker, lifetime porker

President Ronald Reagan was duped into appointing Henry Travillion Wingate as a District Court Judge for the Southern District of Mississippi in 1985. At the time, Henry was 38-years-old. Henry didn’t receive this appointment because he was the most qualified attorney in Jackson, Mississippi; he received it because he had proven to be a reliable lackey for the local political hacks.

Since receiving his law license in 1973, Henry has spent his entire adult life with his significant snout implanted in the public trough. Put simply, Henry has been digesting public pork for almost forty (40) years.
A panel of the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals scolded Henry for engaging in the following misconduct.

Henry’s sole concern as a U.S. District Judge is to collect his unearned bi-weekly salary of over $6,000. Henry certainly isn’t concerned about assuring that the litigants (victims in many instances) that appear in his court receive justice in a timely fashion.

In a case involving Jimmy Ford and his then-employer Diversified Technology, it took Henry the Slacker six (6) years to render a final judgment in the case after the jury awarded Mr. Ford $1.3 million in damages.

This wasn’t the first time that Henry stiffed parties to a lawsuit in failing to issue a timely ruling. Henry previously presided over a $10 million lawsuit filed by 167 Jackson police officers over the way the department handed promotions, discipline and transfers. In this case, it took Henry the Loser seven (7) years before he issued a ruling.

Attorney Ed Lobrano of Jackson, who filed the lawsuit on behalf of the Jackson police union said, “I don’t ever recall in my 39 years of practice any judge taking this long to rule on a case. I’m as much at a loss as anyone.”

Henry’s Hyperbolic (BS) Defenses

Henry had the chutzpah to defend his conduct by claiming it was partially caused by a traffic accident in which is vehicle was destroyed, he had eye surgery, and his wife’s cancer returned after 20 years.

Its clear that Henry missed his calling as a standup comedian!

He also claimed it was due to his presiding over the bribery trial of Golf Coast attorney Paul Minor and the trial of Jackson drug-kingpin

As a consequence of his egregious misconduct, the cheerleaders for Judicial Misfits sitting on the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals punished Henry by gifting him with a letter scolding him for his conduct.

As we speak (ca. September 2012) Henry continues to sit on the bench in Jackson. It should be noted that Henry’s present income is $178,000 federal salary + $ nearly $86,000 in dividend and rental income. Being a certified slacker pays really well, right?
