Attorney Michael Caminiti of Barrington, IL; ethical leper-con

The state of Illinois presented Michael Joseph Caminiti with a law license in 1996.

The Disciplinary Commission found Michael guilty of the following misconduct.
  1. Engaged in a blatant conflict of interest
  2. Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  3. Engaged in conduct tending to bring the legal profession into disrepute
In one matter, Louis and Delia Crosoli hired Michael and his brother, Peter Caminiti, to represent them in financial and estate-planning matters. Two years later, Louis died and Mark and his brother Peter continued to represent Delia in tax and estate matters.

Shortly after Louis’ death, Michael and his wife entered into an agreement with Delia wherein she agreed to lend them $100,000 to purchase a home in River Forest, Illinois. At the time, Delia was eighty-five (85) years old and living alone. Delia had assets totaling over $1 million, very little of which was liquid assets. In order to obtain the $100,000 to lend to Mike and his wife, Delia authorized Mike to withdraw $75,000 worth of cash from one of her investment accounts and to take out a $25,000 line of credit from the same investment account.

Of course Mike the Weasel never advised Delia to obtain the advice of another attorney before he duped her into lending him and his wife $100,000 at an interest rate that was well below the market rate. Taking advantage of senior citizens is disgusting!

As a consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Illinois Supreme Court punished Michael by gifting him with a complimentary censure. .

As we speak (ca. September 2012) Michael practices with Caminiti & Caminiti 777 Lake Zurich Road in Barrington, Illinois, which is about 42 miles northwest of Chicago.
