Judge Robert Coates of San Diego; scofflaw; moron, Il Duce Wannabee
Judge Robert Coates is a well-recognized and celebrated ethical leper-con.
From 1993 to 1998, Judge Robert Coates engaged in a pattern of judicial misconduct. Put simply, Judge Robert Coates was a serial violator of the rules of judicial conduct and/or of California criminal statutes.
The California Judicial Commission charged Judge Robert Coates with lending the prestige of his judicial office (What prestige are these fools referring too?) to further his own selfish personal interests. Examples of Judge Robert Coates engaging in said judicial misconduct are as follows:
It would be pretty obvious to any casual observer, which would include your run-of-the-mill Judicial Misfit that, Judge Robert Coates went to great lengths to impress upon those he communicated with that he was in fact a “judge” and was entitled to special consideration.
Judge Robert Coates Misuse (Illegal) of Public Resources
At Judge Robert Coates direction, the letters alluded to above were prepared by court secretaries during court hours and via the use of court resources.
In addition, Judge Robert Coates also illegally used court secretaries and resources to prepare and in many instances send numerous other documents that involved his personal business interests. Examples of this illegal conduct are:
The Judicial Commission ruled that Judge Robert Coates extensive (aka, illegal) use of court secretaries and court resources to generate letters and other documents occurred on more than one-hundred (100) occasions.
The Judicial Commission went on to say that Judge Robert Coates engaged in a pattern of conduct toward court staff and persons appearing before him were victims of being impatient, undignified, and discourteous. Examples of Judge Coates’ deplorable conduct are as follows:
Judge Coates Demeaning a Prospective Juror
In 1997, Judge Robert Coates presided over jury selection in People v. Lamar Alexander. During voir dire (questioning of the jurors), a prospective juror who was a school teacher advised the judge Robert Coates that she might not be able to serve as a juror. The following conversation with the juror and Judge Robert Coates then took place.
Judge Coates: So what’s the problem?
Juror: A commitment that I can’t break and school’s starting.
Judge Coates: So are you – What does school – You’re a teacher?
Juror: Yes.
Judge Coates: All right. Well, ma’am, that is something that they [jury administrator’s office] should have asked over there. And that, with great respect, is something you should have raised with them over there.
Judge Coates: Do we really want you teaching our children?
After demeaning this school teacher, the better question would be: “Judge Robert Coates, do we really want you, or can we really afford allowing you to dispense justice in San Diego County? Me thinks not!
Judge Robert Coates and the removal of a Water Fountain
In November 1997, court staff removed a water fountain from the 4th floor of the courthouse.
During an ensuring conversation, Judge Robert Coates cursed at the deputy court administrator and berated him for removing the water fountain. Judge Robert Coates went on to say, “I don’t give a goddamn who you are. You don’t move the goddamn water fountain.”
Judge Robert Coates Punishment for being a certified Judicial Misfit
As a result of the egregious and serial violations of the Code of Judicial Conduct, the California Judicial Performance Commission handed down a severe punishment to Judge Robert Coates for his years-long conduct as a Il Duce Wannabee. The enablers and apologists on the Commission punished Judge Robert Coates by giving him a complimentary public admonishment.
This certified moron, ethical gimp, loser and serial scofflaw (that’d be Judge Robert Coates), unfortunately continues to sit on the Superior Court in San Diego County.
This ol’ Dawg’s advice to any all residents of San Diego County that may be future victims of Judge Robert Coates’ moronic, vindictive and/or omnipotent behavior if your case is assigned to him; take my advice and spend a few dollars to be fitted for an “inversed chastity belt.”
