U.S. Judge Jon McCalla of Memphis; arrogant loser

President George H.W. Bush was duped into appointing Jon McCalla as a U.S. District Court Judge for the Western District of Tennessee in 1991. McCalla wasn’t appointed because he was the most qualified attorney in the greater Memphis area. He received the appointment because his handlers (local political hacks) determined that he could be relied upon to render favorable decisions.

When faced with a possible public hearing regarding his misconduct, Jon decided to admit that he was a practicing Judicial Misfit.

Jon admitted that he repeatedly engaged in “improper and intemperate” conduct toward a number of attorneys. Among potential critical of Jon regarding courtroom run-ins with lawyers and state officials.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Judicial Misfits sitting on the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati punished Jon by gifting him with a six-month paid leave of absence.

Lastly, the comedians on the 6th Circuit ordered that Jon undergo behavioral counseling. Rumor has it that Jon opted to attend classes at the Mel Gibson Behavioral Institute located in Malibu, California.

Since Jon received a lifetime appointment and is only 65-years-old (DOB 1947) its likely that he’ll be providing even more useless services to the good folks in Memphis for the next 20 or more years.

This is exactly the kind of judge we get when the only requirement for a lifetime federal appointment is the willingness to expend at leas 10% of one’s disposable income on purchases of industrial strength “ChapStick.”
