Attorney Christopher Burchinal of Delaware, OH; thief

The Supreme Court of Ohio presented Christopher James Burchinal with a law license in 1999 after he graduated from Capitol University in Columbus.

Disciplinary Counsel of the Ohio Supreme Court found Christopher guilty of the following misconduct.

Christopher found it acceptable to steal thousands of dollars in settlement funds that should have gone to his clients. (Columbus Dispatch)

Christopher diverted nearly $14,000 in client funds to his own personal use. The funds represented insurance settlements involving three cases that Chris was supposed to pay his clients’ medical creditors.

In addition to stealing $14,000 from his clients, Chris also lied to a couple for two years by falsely claiming he was negotiating a settlement regarding their personal-injury lawsuit when in fact there was no case because Chris missed the two-year deadline for filing the lawsuit. Now you gotta be one big time Moron to miss such a filing deadline!

Chris’s Hyperbolic (BS) Defense for stealing client funds

Chris had the chutzpah to whine that he wasn’t earning enough money as a dishonest attorney to pay his mortgage and child-care bills while also being responsible for $3,800 a month in law-firm expenses. Almost makes ya wanna cry, right?

Maybe it was this BS defense that caused prosecutor O’Brien to give Chris a pass and not prosecute him for felony theft.

As a consequence of his misconduct the patron saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Ohio Supreme Court punished Christopher by gifting him with a 6-month suspension of his law license.

Because Attorney Misfits in Ohio are held to a much lower standard of conduct then everyone else, Chris was never criminally prosecuted for felonious theft. The good folks in Delaware County can personally thank County Prosecutor Carol O’Brien for giving Chris the proverbial wink and a nod. I’m sure that Carol would act quite differently it the thief wasn’t a lawyer.

Due to the conduct of the comedians sitting on the Ohio Supreme Court, Christopher will be back to practicing his brand of law on or about January 30, 2012.
