Attorney John L. Bell of Plattsburgh, NY; scofflaw The state of New York presented John Lee Bell with a law license in 1961 after he graduated from Albany University Law School.
At one time, John sat as a Judge on the Court of Claims.
During his tenure on the bench, the New York Commission on Judicial Conduct found Anthony guilty of the following misconduct.
John served as an officer and director of two Corporations organized for profit while sitting as a full-time judge on the Court of Claims. John failed to disclose his personal interest in the two corporations on his ethics forms.
John owned 20% of the shares of Norpco Restaurant, Inc. which owned and operated the Butcher Block Restaurant in Plattsburgh. John was one of four directors of Norpco, and it was his responsibility to perform any legal work the corporation needed.
For at least 15 years, Norpco paid John $1,000 a month as salary as secretary of the corporation. He also received year-end bonuses in varying amounts.
Several years later, Norpco decided to build another Butcher Block Restaurant and John was issued 7% of the stock for providing legal work for the restaurant and for serving as an elected director and secretary. As payment for his services, he received annual bonuses.
As a consequence of his illegal conduct, the patron saints for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Judicial Commission punished John by gifting him with a complimentary admonition.
Because Judicial Misfits in New York are held to a much lower standard of conduct then everyone else, Johnny was never criminally charged for filing false financial statements.
As we speak (ca. August 2012) John practices law in the Plattsburgh, New York area.
