Judge Mary Thurber of Hackensack, NJ; ethical troll

The state of New Jersey presented Mary F. Thurber with a law license in 1986 after she graduated from Rutgers University School of Law.

The New Jersey Advisory Committee on Judicial Conduct found Mary guilty of engaging in the following misconduct as a part time judge of the Township of Lawrence Municipal Court and relates to his use of his personal Facebook account.

  • Failed to avoid impropriety and the appearance of impropriety
  • Improperly engaged in the practice of law while on the bench
  • Mary knew or shou]d have known that as a judge she was ethically prohibited, with limited exceptions inapplicable to the McKinley Estate, from serving as a fiduciary
  • Mary improperly remained fiduciary to the McKinley Estate between 2009 until 20221 and during that
  • period, performed numerous fiduciary duties
  • In February 2022, Mary signed an Attorney Retainer Agreement with Hunziker, Jones & Sweeny, PA (the "Hunziker firm'') to represent her and file the appropriate papers with the court to conclude the administration of the McKinley Estate
  • By service as fiduciary for the McKinley Estate, Mary violated the Judicial Code of Conduct that prohibits judges from serving as an executor, administrator, trustee, guardian other fiduciary, except for the estate of a family member if such service will not interfere with the proper performance of one’s judicial duties
  • failed to observe high standards of conduct so the integrity and independence of the Judiciary
  • may be preserved
  • Mary’s inaction in administering the McKinley Estate from June 1998 through April 8, 2022 deprived heirs of their inheritance

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the apologists for Judicial Misfits sitting on the New Jersey Supreme Court punished Mary by gifting her with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. February 2024), Mary continues to dispense her so-called brand of jurisprudence as a Vicinage 2 Superior Court Superior Court Judge in Hackensack, New Jersey.
