Attorney Joey Cano of Bangkok, Thailand; ethical troll

The State of Washington presented Joey Cano with a law license in 2001 after he graduated from Cleveland Marshall University School of Law.

The Washington State Bar found Joey guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty, or misrepresentation
  • Engaged in conduct that is prejudicial to the administration of justice.
  • In 2006, Joey started working as an associate at a law firm in Kennewick
  • In each case Joey worked on, the clients had retained the firm, not Joey personally
  • In March 2007, Joey had a dispute with management at the firm, and after meeting with the firm's owner on March 16, 2007, he decided to leave the firm
  • Joey failed to inform the owner that he intended to leave until the morning of the following Monday, March 19, 2007
  • Joey entered the firm's offices on Sunday, March 18, 2007, and removed all of the client files that had been assigned to him
  • On the same day, Sunday, March 18, 2007, Joey sent a letter to all of the affected clients informing them that he had left the firm and taken their files and asking them to call him at his new office and advise whether they wanted their files transferred back to the firm
  • Joey did not inform the clients beforehand that he would be removing their files from the firm's office
  • On the morning of Monday, March 19, 2007, Joey called the owner of the firm and informed her that he was leaving the firm, but did not tell her that he had removed the client files
  • The firm's owner made various attempts to contact Joe, leaving voice mail messages for him at several numbers to find out what happened to client files that should have remained in his office with the firm
  • When he returned the call that afternoon, the firm’s owner informed Joey that she would call the police and file a bar complaint if he did not return the files by 5:00 p.m.
  • The next day, Joey returned all of the files to the firm

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Washington Supreme Court punished Joey by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. December 2023), Joey practices his so-called brand of law 99/270 Soi 4, Kanyanapisek in Ramindra, Kannayao, Bangkok, Thailand.
