Solicitor Deborah Massie of Australia; rubber check afficianado

The Law Society of New South Whales provided Deborah Rose Massie with a law license in 1975 after she graduated from Dalhousie University School of Law.

The Council of the New South Wales Bar Association found Debbie guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Writing bad checks on her trust account
  • Disobeying a court order (Screw you, said Debbie!)
  • Failed to maintain client funds in a trust account
  • Failed to turn over client funds promptly
  • Misappropriated (stole) client funds
  • When asked to refund an unearned retainer of $1,000, Debbie provided three post-dated checks all of which bounced (rubber)
  • In 10 client bankruptcy proceedings, Debbie submitted letters containing misrepresentations or misleading statements
  • When the 10 clients demanded a refund of unearned fees, Debbie gave them all checks that bounced
  • In another matter, Debbie agreed to refund $100 fee and issued five $20 checks, all of which bounced
  • In one other client matter, Debbie agreed to refund $500 in installments of $30.49, however, the first check bounced

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the cheerleaders for Solicitor Misfits sitting on the New South Wales Bar Association punished Debbie by gifting him with a complimentary 90-day suspension of her law license.

Debbie’s Hyperbolic (BS) Defense to Bouncing Checks

Unbelievably, Debbie had the gall to state that "she acted in good faith."  How do you write fifteen (15) bad checks while acting in good faith?  How is that even possible?

And lastly, because Solicitor Misfits in New South Whales are held to a much lower standard of conduct then everyone else, Debbie was never criminally charged for writing bad checks.

As we speak (ca. November 2023), Debbie practices her so-called brand of law in Isaacs, New South Wales.
