Attorney Thomas Flippin of Elkin, NC; ethical gremlin

The state of North Carolina presented Thomas Clay Flippin with a law license in 2000 after he graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Law.

The Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar found Tommy guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

• Disbursed entrusted funds to himself from trust account to which he was not entitled
• Failed to properly maintain and disburse entrusted funds
• Improperly disbursed funds from his trust account on at least fifteen (15) occasions
• Did not conduct required trust account reconciliations
• Did not always identify the client on trust account checks and deposit slips
• Did not maintain sufficient records to identify the owners of entrusted funds in his trust account
• Did not timely disburse funds from his trust account
• Failed to maintain sufficient trust account records
• Failed to conduct required trust account reconciliations
• Failed to annually provide clients with accounting of their entrusted funds

As a direct consequence of his misconduct the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Grievance Committee of the North Carolina State Bar punished Tommy by gifting him with a complimentary stayed 2-year suspension of his law license.

In truth, the comedians sitting on the Grievance Committee didn’t mete out any meaningful punishment to Tommy.

As we speak (ca. September 2023), Tommy practices his so-called brand of law with the Law Offices of Thomas C. Flippin PC at 1435 North Bridge Street in Elkin, North Carolina.
