Judge Chaney Taylor Jr. of Batesville, AR; ethical gremlin

The State of New York provided Chaney W. Taylor Jr. with a law license in 1991 after he graduated from the University Arkansas School of Law.

The Arkansas Judicial Discipline and Disability Commissionfound Chaney guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Following a phone call from a third party, informing of the arrest of a person for speeding and reckless driving, Chaney contacted the Arkansas State police about the matter while the trooper was transporting the person to jail
  • Chaney asked the trooper to issue the person a citation rather than take him to jail
  • When the trooper told Chaney police protocol for transporting the suspect to jail, Cheney asked the trooper to release the person on his own recognizance
  • Failed to uphold the integrity of the judiciary
  • Failed to avoid impropriety and/or the appearance of impropriety
  • Abused the prestige of his judicial office to advance personal interests

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Judicial Commission punished Chaney by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. October 2023), Chaney continues to dispense his so-called brand of jurisprudence as Independence County District Court Judge in Batesville, Arkansas.
