Attorney Brenda Storey of Denver, CO; ethical troll

The state of Colorado provided Brenda L. Storey with a law license in 1985 after he graduated from the University of Colorado School of Law.

The Colorado State Bar found Brenda guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • During a divorce matter, Brenda pressured her client to raise money to pay her legal fee by selling furniture and other marital property
  • Brenda instructed her client to pay her legal fee by selling marital property without advising her client of the possible risks to her client’s case
  • Brenda’s client offered to pay her legal bill with a tax refund check for $47,578.43
  • The $47,578.43 check was jointly issued to the client and the client’s husband, who was the opposing party in the litigation
  • Brenda deposited the $47,578.43 check into her trust account without counseling her client about the potential effect on the litigation and without investigating the reason the check had been issued
  • In the following month, Brenda transferred the $47,578.24 check into her operating account to pay her earned fees
  • Brenda did not advise her client to disclose the check to the opposing party despite the check’s materiality to salient issues in the case, including settlement negotiations and disputes over legal fees
  • Engaged in an egregious conflict of interest involving the $47,578.24 check and her client
  • Commingled client funds with her personal funds
  • Engaged in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit, or misrepresentation

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Colorado Supreme Court punished Brenda by gifting her with a complimentary 1-year suspension of her law license.

As we speak (ca. August 2023), Brenda practices her so-called brand of law with The Law Offices of Brenda L. Storey PC at 4582 South Ulster Street in Denver, Colorado.
