U.S. Circuit Judge Laurence H. Silberman of D.C.; greedy ingrate

The state of California presented Laurence Hirsch Silberman with a law license in 1961 after he graduated from Harvard Law School.

In 1985 President Reagan was duped into appointing Laurence Hirsch Silberman to a seat on the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. Laurence didn’t receive this appointment because he was the most qualified attorney in the United States, he received it because he had proven over the years to be a compliant and reliable lackey for the political hacks pushed for his appointment.

In fact, Laurence never had any prior judicial experience. His last job was as a vice-president for strategic planning at the Crocker National Bank in San Francisco.

Judge Silberman is another ungrateful loser who had the chutzpah to become a plaintiff in a lawsuit against the United States (that’d be us) wherein it is claimed that Congress violated the compensation clause of the constitution by barring cost-of-living adjustments. This absurd argument has already been turned down by the Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court several years ago.

Greedy Laurence actually believes that the American taxpayers should be made to pay him more than $184,500 he’s already paid. In addition to this underserved salary, Laurence earns a substantial sum as a teacher at Georgetown University Law School. Those earnings are as follows:
  • 2010 = $87,300 – Georgetown
  • 2009 = $80,000 – Georgetown + $2,700 – teaching Hoover Institute at Stanford
  • 2008 = $80,000 – Georgetown + $500 Dartmouth teaching 1 day
  • 2007 = $40,000 – Georgetown
  • 2006 = $25,000 – Georgetown – Falls Semester only
  • 2005 = $50,000 – Georgetown
  • 2004 = $50,000 – Georgetown
In addition, Laurence’s spouse receives an undisclosed pension from an undisclosed source. Add to this $70,000 that he earned in interest and dividend income in 2010 (source: financial disclosure statement). Therefore, Greedy Laurence and his spouse earned at least $400,000 in 2010. Laurence gives Greed a bad name!

Making matters even more ridiculous, Laurence assumed senior status in 2000, which means for the last 12-years he’s only been required to work 10-hours-a-week. In addition to being supremely greedy, he’s also a big time slacker.

What is truly galling is the fact that Wallace isn’t required to pay even one cent into the cost of his 100% lifetime pension. Why aren’t Congress and more importantly the Tea Party legislators raising hell about this abusive giveaway of taxpayer money?
