Former Judge Philip Prewitt of Macon, MO; ethical gremlin

The state of Missouri provided Philip Prewitt with a law license in 1992 after he graduated from Washington University School of Law.

The Missouri Commission on Retirement, Removal and Discipline of Judges found Phil guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

• Sought to dissuade his rival from opposing him in an election, which he lost in 2018
• Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
• Failed to promote public confidence in the judiciary
• Abused his judicial office
• Phil’s threats were inappropriate and caused potential injury to his former client and the legal system
• Threatened to reveal the affairs of his rival’s husband if she ran against him in a judicial election
• Phil’s rival made the threatening recording at the request of the FBI
• The FBI became involved after the rival received an anonymous letter to her daughter in 2018 that crudely described her husband’s infidelity and named the children of other families involved in the affairs
• Phil allegedly mentioned the affairs to several people, including a church pastor, a former police chief, and the city’s mayor, in conversations that were relayed to the rival
• The rival’s wife believed that Phil intended to use her husband’s conduct against her in the campaign and that he was responsible for the letter

Asa direct consequence of his misconduct, the Missouri Supreme Court suspended Phil for two-years from his position as a Macon County Circuit Court judge in Macon, Missouri.

As we speak (ca. March 2023), Phil practices his so-called brand of law with Philip E. Prewitt LLC at 2005 North Missouri in Macon, Missouri.
