Judge Cynthia Gray of Detroit, MI; slacker, loser

The state of Michigan provided Cynthia Gray with a law license in 1987 after she graduated from Marquette University School of Law.

The Judicial Tenure Commission found Cynthia guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Failure to diligently discharge her administrative responsibilities
  • Acted improperly in her handling of two cases
  • Displayed an overall lack of industry that was exemplified by a third case
  • Engaged in improper ex parte (one-sided) communications
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Conducted an arraignment at the 7th Precinct headquarters in People v. Spearman was inappropriate in that it was contrary to all practice and procedure under court rules and contrary to the practice and custom in Wayne County
  • The Spearman arraignment was not conducted in court during normal business hours and was conducted without a prosecutor present
  • Cynthia imposed a questionable bond given the circumstances considering the crimes alleged
  • Cynthia’s conduct during the arraignment of Spearman gave the appearance of impropriety
  • Engaged in conduct clearly prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • In People v. Crosse, Cynthia threatened to put the defendant in jail if he did not waive his constitutional right to a jury trial
  • Repeatedly failed to perform her judicial duties
  • Cynthia's constant and repeated adjournments of proceedings without good cause, as exemplified in the case of People v. Ketchings, as well as repeated unnecessary and unexcused absences from judicial responsibilities during normal court hours were inappropriate
  • Cynthia’s Likewise overall lack of industry and proper management of her court docket as well as an unwillingness to take corrective action or accept constructive suggestions or assistance to improve case management, constituted a hindrance to the administration of justice

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the apologists sitting on the Michigan Supreme Court punished Cynthia by gifting her with a complimentary 60-day suspension from the bench without pay.

As we speak (ca. March 2023), Cynthia continues to dispense her so-called brand of jurisprudence as a 3rd Circuit Court Judge in Detroit, Michigan.
