Attorney Neal Wang of British Columbia, CAN; ethical troll

The Law Society of British Columbia presentedNeal Burton Wang with a law license in 1999 after he graduated from the University of Ottawa School of Law.

The Hearing Committee for the Law Society of British Columbia found Neal guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

• Used his trust account to receive and disburse a total of approximately $163,705.94
• Failed to provide substantial or any legal services in connection with client trust matter
• Failed to make a record of the results of any inquiries made about the circumstances of client trust matter
• Failed to make reasonable inquiries about the circumstances of client trust matter
• Failed to obtain, record, and verify client identification information
• Failed to maintain accounting records in compliance with Law Society Rules
• Failed to maintain a book of entry or data source showing all trust transactions, and in particular the source and form of the funds received and the name of each recipient of money out of trust, contrary toLaw Society Rules
• Failed to
• Made payments from trust funds when your trust accounting records were not current
• Made or authorized the withdrawal of funds from his trust account by way of online transfers, email transfers, ATM withdrawals, and/or bank drafts, contrary to Law Society Rules
• Failed to prepare monthly trust reconciliations for your pooled trust account within 30 days of the effective date of the reconciliation or at all, contrary to Law Society Rules
• Failed to maintain minimum general account records, and in particular a book of original entry (general ledger), contrary Law Society Rules
• Failed to record each trust or general transaction promptly, and in any event not more than 7 days after a trust transaction, contrary to Law Society Rules
• Failed to prepare monthly trust reconciliations for your pooled trust account within 30 days of the effective date of the reconciliation or at all, contrary to Law Society Rules
• Delivered one or more bills to his client(s) that were not signed, or accompanied by a letter signed, by or on your behalf, contrary to the Legal Profession Act
• Delivered one or more bills to your client(s) that did not contain a reasonably descriptive statement of the services with a lump sum charge and a detailed statement of disbursements, contrary to the Legal Profession Act

As a direct result of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the sitting on the Hearing Committee punished Neal by gifting him with a complimentary 30-day suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. February 2023), Neal practices his so-called brand of law with Bridgehouse Law LLP at 900 West Hastings Street in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
