Solicitor Mark Thorley of Scotland; ethical dwarf

The Law Society presented Mark Thorley with a law license in 1987 after he graduated from the University of Glasgow School of Law.

The Scottish Solicitors’ Discipline Tribunal found Mark guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Engaged in professional misconduct
  • Threatened his client’s former partner with legal action unless a complaint made against him was withdrawn
  • Engaged in various misconduct involving a dispute between a couple over property
  • Represented a woman against her former partner involving the sale of two homes
  • Mark refused to return paperwork to the complainant
  • Failed to respond to emails and phone calls from the complainant
  • Mark allowed his independence to be impaired and permitted his personal interests to influence his actions on behalf of his client

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Solicitor Misfits sitting on the Discipline Tribunal punished Mark by gifting him with a complimentary censure and imposed a fine of £3,000.

As we speak (ca. February 2023), Mark practices his so-called brand of law with Thorley Stephenson Ltd at 20 Hopetoun Street in Edinburgh, Scotland.
