Attorney Thomas Drake of Beckley, WV; convicted embezzler

The state of West Virginia presented Thomas Jason Drake with a law license in 2000 after he graduated from the University of West Virginia School of Law.

The Lawyer Disciplinary Board found Tommy guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

• Pled guilty to felony embezzlement
• Criminal charges related to Tommy’s conduct while serving as a trustee of a settlement fund
• Unlawfully withdrew $104,853.53 from the settlement fund
• Improperly converted $70,798.67 of the $104,853.53 to his law firm
• Circuit Court ordered Tommy to pay $56,906.39 to the trust’s subrogee Great American

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the West Virginia Supreme Court punished Tommy by gifting him with a complimentary 7-year suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. December 2022), Tommy practices his so-called brand of law at 200 North Kanawha Street in Beckley, West Virginia.
