Attorney Brian VanMeveren of Woodbury, MN; moronic slacker

The state of Minnesota presented Brian S. VanMeveren with a law license in 2012 after he graduated from the University of South Dakota School of Law.

The Office of Lawyer Regulation found Brian guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Failed to provide competent representation in three client matters[moron]
  • Failed to act with due diligence involving three clients(slacker)
  • Failed to communicate with client
  • Engaged in a pattern of fee-related misconduct by failing to explain the basis of his fee agreement to a client
  • Failed to explain a limited scope representation agreement to a client
  • Failed to account for fees incurred more than fee agreement called for
  • Used an hourly emergency rate that was not disclosed to the client
  • Failed to timely return unearned fees
  • Failed to deposit unearned fees into a trust account
  • Failed to obtain a receipt signed by the client for a cash payment
  • Failed letter with a court containing irrelevant personal attacks on opposing counsel
  • Used confidential client information, which was disclosed by his paralegal, about an opposing counsel’s divorce to retaliate against him

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Minnesota Supreme Court punished Brian by gifting him with a complimentary 30-day suspension of his law license and assessed $900 in investigative costs.

And lastly, as one would suspect, Brian fails to mention the misconduct set forth above on his self-serving website at www.vanmeverenlaw.com.   Apparently, he chose to conceal this relevant information from prospective clients for the purpose of not limiting his future victim pool.

As we speak (ca. December 2022), Brian practices his so-called brand of law with the Van with the VanMeveren Law Group at 123 North College in Fort Collins, Colorado.
