Attorney Steven Woodring of Clearwater, KS; ethical Dumbo

The Kansas Board for Discipline of Attorneys found Steven guilty of the following misconduct.
  1. Failing to provide competent legal representation (Dumbo)
  2. Failing to act diligently in representing his clients (victims)
  3. Failure to communicate with his clients
  4. Failed to safely care for the property of his clients
  5. Failed to be candid (lied) when testifying before a tribunal
  6. Engaged in the unauthorized practice of law while his license was suspended
  7. Engaged in a variety of misconduct
  8. Failed to comply with court orders
  9. Engaged in conduct involving deceit, fraud, dishonesty and/or misrepresentation
  10. Refused to make restitution to his clients
In one matter, Steven repeatedly misled (lied) to his client about the status of a case wherein the client was being sued. Due to Steven’s lies and gross negligence, the client ended up having a default judgment rendered against him. When the client attempted to secure a loan, he was denied because of the default judgment, which led him to contact Steven who again lied to him that he was taking care of the matter.

Steven’s Hyperbolic (BS) Defenses

In a lame effort at levity, Steven had the audacity to defend his egregious misconduct by claiming he suffered from depression for some time. He further claimed that his depressed state contributed to his misconduct. The Disciplinary Board noted that Steven didn’t provide any evidence to corroborate his testimony.

Unfortunately for Steven, the Board didn’t buy into his manufactured excuse. They probably recognized that he was lying because while testifying his lips were moving.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the patron saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Kansas Supreme Court punished Steven by gifting him with a complimentary one-year suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. June 2012) Steven practices law at 6900 West 87th Street South in Clearwater, Kansas.
