Attorney Hunt Garner of Sandy, UT; cheating slacker

The State of Utah presented Hunt W. Garner with a law license in 1993 after he graduated from Brigham Young University (BYU) School of Law.

The Ethics and Discipline Committee of the Utah Supreme found Hunt guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

• Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
• Failed to communicate with his client
• Failed to safeguard client funds
• Failed to decline/terminate representation when required to so act
• Failed to maintain any client billing records
• Spent client retainer money prior to it being earned (cheater)
• Employed a disbarred attorney as a paralegal
• Failed to provide an accounting or the file to his client upon being terminated
• Did not refund any fees that were unearned pursuant to the terms of the fee agreement
• Failed to properly supervise his office staff
• Failed to diligently pursue client asylum petitions
• Failed to explain the matter to his client so that she could make informed decisions regarding the representation
• Failed to respond to client communications
• Failed review the questionnaires or the 1-94s involving asylum petitions that were sent to him by his clients
• Client sent text messages and emails to Hunt’s paralegal but many of them remained unanswered

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Utah Supreme Court punished Hunt by gifting him with a complimentary 3-year suspension of his law license effective October 2021.  

As we speak (ca. October 2022), Hunt will resume his so-called brand of law at 9980 South 300 West in Sandy, Utah in September 2024.
