The State of South Carolina presented James Watson Smiley IV with a law license in 1993 after he graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law.

Disciplinary Counsel of the South Carolina Supreme Court found Jimmy guilty of the following misconduct.

Jimmy’s 1^st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

• Failed to fully cooperate with ethics investigators (Screw you, said Jimmy!)
• Failed to provide any receipt and disbursement journals, client ledgers, or reconciliation reports as demanded in a subpoena from ethics investigators
• Wrote a check on insufficient funds bank account (rubber)
• Failed to abide by client's decisions concerning objectives of representation
• Failed to promptly inform client of any decision or circumstance to which client's informed consent is required
• Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the South Carolina Supreme punished Jimmy by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

Jimmy’s 2^nd bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

• Failed to provide competent representation (moron)
• Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
• Failed to timely perfect an appeal on client’s behalf
• Failed to correct various deficiencies the South Carolina Court of Appeals ordered him to correct
• Failed to cooperate with ethics investigators (Up yours, said Jimmy!)

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the South Carolina Supreme punished Jimmy by gifting him with a complimentary 4-month suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. October 2022), Jimmy practices his so-called brand of law at 473 Mercantile Road in Mcclellanville, South Carolina.
